The caterpillar tooted on the giant.

And so the giant threw the caterpillar, and she landed in the hard dirt.

And she walked for eleven miles…being rained on.

2

Then she met a boy caterpillar.

3

And they fell in love-at-first-sight.

And they walked until they found a beautiful land, and they bought a beautiful house with flowers and green grass.  And they lived happily together with a beautiful child.

One there was a very loving mommy snake with three loving daughters.  Her daughters’ names were Anabelle, Isley, and Evey.  And the mother’s name was Mrs. Kelly.

They heard a rustle in the bushes of their home.  They looked outside, and they saw an orange and white tail.  And they knew what it was.

png 3

It was a fox.

png 4

They hid from the fox and soon they grew hungry.  The fox could smell the snakes and waited for them to come out.

png 5

Now the snakes’ tummies hurted and they hoped the fox would go away soon.

png 6

Or else, they thought, they would starve.  When the snakes got so hungry they couldn’t help it, they went outside to look for something to eat and the fox saw them and was getting ready to leap.

png 7

But the fox missed the snakes and hurt his leg.

And the snakes finally got something to eat.  And then the snakes were happy again.

THE BABY

THE BABY
Written and Illustrated by Anabelle (7)

hippo001

One day the hippo was just walking along, minding its own business.

hippo002

And then he heard something falling out of the air.

hippo003

And when he saw the thing that dropped, he stopped.  It was a package.  He ran with it to his house.

hippo004

He picked the package up and put it on his little rock.  And he thought of what it might be.

hippo005

Then he opened it and discovered it was a baby hippo that was very ugly.

hippo006

The baby hippo – that was very ugly – sat up and danced.  The big hippo was confused.

hippo007

The baby hippo wanted to play and the big hippo did not.

hippo008

The hippo was wondering if the baby hippo would change, and it did.  It had snaky eyes, very big ears, and sharp teeth.

hippo009

And then the baby turned into a very scar monster.  The big hippo realized it was very little and the baby was very big.

hippo0010

And so the big hippo ran so far…about three miles.

hippo0011

When he stopped running, he saw another big monster.

Queenia of the Dragons and her Best Friend Forever

QUEENIA OF THE DRAGONS AND HER BEST FRIEND FOREVER

It is difficult for queens to keep friends.  This is especially true for dragon queens,  who like to eat their friends.

Queenia of the Dragons had never had a friend for more than a day.

“Thanks for playing with me.   Would you like to stay for. ..dinner?” she would ask.  Or even, “let’s play restaurant.   You can be Lunch and climb on into that hot soup pot.”

Now,  dragons are nocturnal and only like go out at night.   But Queenia found it harder and harder to find friends to play with (and eat) so she had to go out in the daytime to find someone.

There,  in the daytime,  she met Mr. Golden Sun.  He smiled brightly all the time.  Queenia liked that.  He made her feel warm all over.  She liked that too.

So she tried to eat Mr. Golden Sun.  And when she couldn’t,  Queenia realized she’d met her Best Friend Forever.

Warthogs in the Sky

WARTHOGS IN THE SKY

Written by Luke (age 31)

Illustrated by Anabelle (age 7)

Winifred Warthog was feeling very alone.

Her family and friends had risen early and wandered over the hill and beyond to the watering hole.  Now the sun was high and the heat made Winifred wilty.

She stayed home beneath a leaning tree and waited.

And waited.

While she waited, Winifred did something she had never done before.  There was nothing happening AROUND her, so she looked UP at the sky.

It was blue and bright like a shimmering watering hole.

And there she saw them — two gray shapes that could almost look like warthogs if you squinted just right.  Winifred watched them.

And watched them.

While she did so, Winifred did not feel so very alone.

FROG TEACHES BEAR TO SWIM

FROG TEACHES BEAR TO SWIM

by Anabelle, Isley, Kelly, and Luke

Once there was a frog and she went hopping along the lily pads.

Bear was there in his tight underwear.  His “swimsuit” was two sizes too small.  He hopped along, too, then SLIPPED and SPLASHED into the water!  He lay on his back.  He didn’t move.

He was stuck.

“Do you know how to swim?” asked the frog.

“No” admitted the bear.

Frog asked if he would like a lesson, but Bear became grumpy.

“How could you teach me?” growled Bear.  “You are just a little frog.”

So Frog swam to the shore and made ice cream.  She made Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream, which happened to be Bear’s favorite.

Frog left the ice cream and asked the bear again.  Bear was hungry.

“Okay” Bear grumbled.

So Frog taught Bear how to swim.  She explained swimming step-by-step.  She swam around and around until Bear tried and eventually learned.

Then the two enjoyed the ice cream together.

“Do you know how to make ice cream?” Frog asked.

“No” Bear admitted.  “Would you teach me?”
